Competitive interactions in marine macroalgae: an analysis of the literature by boolean operators

Marine macroalgae are the ecological basis in most of marine environments. Light and space, added to nutrients rank among important elements influencing their distribution environment. Thus, this work aimed identify quantify current past literature on competitive interactions address main questions patterns consequences for community structure, as well compare capacity different macroalgal taxa. To do so, a quantitative search was performed based papers published from 1934 2022, using following combination Boolean operators keywords: “Seaweed OR macroalga, AND ecolog *, competiti *”. A total 173 articles were then compiled selected. Our results 124 genera with 546 studied taxa competition processes. Among them, 38% belonged Ochrophyta; 31% Rhodophyta 18% Chlorophyta. The most-studied Dictyota (6.8%), Sargassum Ulva (4.9%) Lobophora (4.2%). Space analyzed limiting factor (40.9%), followed by related herbivory (26.1%), lastly over (15.1%). results, while attesting overarching complexity interactions, nevertheless allowed us summarize knowledge regarding macroalgae, thus providing useful synthesis new perspectives systems research.
